Overview
Heinola is a small Finnish town of 18,000 people set on the shores of Lake Ruotsalainen, positioned halfway between Helsinki and Jyväskylä (140 km from each). Founded officially in 1776, the town grew around its rapids and became an important trading hub in the 1700s.
