Accommodation
Inside-park options include Volcano House Hotel and two campgrounds ($10-15/night). Volcano Village has additional hotels and B&Bs just outside the entrance.
Etiquette
This is sacred Hawaiian land. Never remove rocks, sand, or anything natural. Respect that the volcano is the home of goddess Pele.
Fees
Entry costs $15-30 depending on vehicle type, valid for 7 days. The $55 Tri-Park Pass covers Hawaii Volcanoes, Haleakala, and Pu'uhonua o Honaunau for one year.
Safety
Volcanic fumes pose respiratory risks. Avoid Crater Rim areas if pregnant or have heart/lung conditions. No safe swimming exists in the park. Stay on marked trails to avoid hidden lava cracks.
Transport
No public transit exists inside the park. Drive your own vehicle or take the limited county bus (M-Sa only) to Volcano Village from Hilo or Kona.
Weather
Summit temperatures run 12-15 degrees cooler than sea level and can be rainy year-round. Coastal Chain of Craters Road is often hot and dry. Check conditions before visiting.
