Before you go
Accommodation
During Hanko Regatta weekend in early July, book accommodation well in advance as all hotels fill completely. Camping Silversand may still have space.
Activities
Birdwatching at Tulliniemi is excellent in autumn when migratory birds rest before crossing the Gulf of Finland. Sailing and marina facilities are excellent.
Culture
The spa-era architecture, particularly the ornate wooden houses and Hanko Casino, reflects the town's history as a Russian resort destination in the late 19th century.
Transport
Hanko has a railway station with train connections to Karis, Helsinki, and Turku. National Road 25 provides driving access. Most sights are walkable in the city centre.
Weather
Summer (June-August) is peak season with longest days and most services open. The Hanko Regatta in early July draws the largest crowds.
