Overview
Halfeti is a surreal destination where the Birecik Dam (completed 2001) left much of the old town partially submerged, creating an otherworldly landscape of half-flooded mosques, bridges, and Ottoman architecture rising from the Euphrates reservoir. This scenic flooded gorge, stretching 60 km back to Atatürk Dam, has transformed a displaced community into Turkey's most unconventional tourist resort.
