Why go?
Gulpen is the heart of the Heuvelland, South Limburg's most beautiful and hilly region. The village of 4,700 people is surrounded by charming hamlets and natural beauty, with the Gulp and Geul rivers creating the most scenic valley in the Netherlands. While primarily a Dutch holiday destination, it offers walkers, cyclists, and beer lovers an authentic base away from crowded tourist routes.

Get around
The small centre is walkable, but a bike or car is essential for exploring the hilly surroundings. Bicycle rentals are available in Gulpen itself at Jo Herben, with basic 7-gear bikes from €12/day, mountain bikes from €20/day, and electric bikes from €25/day. Scooters require a driver's license and around €50 deposit. The area is popular with cyclists, with numerous racing events passing through. Note that the hills are challenging; consider an electric bike if you're not particularly fit.
