Understand
Most visitors perceive the Gold Coast as a long thin strip of modern high-rise buildings next to seemingly endless beaches, although the city extends far inland to the hills of the Scenic Rim. Surfers Paradise, towards the northern end, is the main hub of leisure activity with huge choices of hotels, restaurants, tourist shops, and experiences. The city is developing as a work hub for large corporations wanting better work-life balance for employees away from capital cities.

When to Go
The Gold Coast enjoys a mild sub-tropical climate year-round with winter months (June-August) having little rainfall and average highs of 21°C. Summer brings frequent afternoon storms with temperatures averaging just below 30°C for daytime highs and around 22°C overnight lows. Due to humidity, a 30°C day can feel like 34°C, with overnight lows remaining near 24°C. Daylight hours run from 6:35AM to just before 5PM in winter; summer sees sunrise as early as 4:40AM and sunset around 6:45PM. Peak season brings crowded theme parks.
