Overview
Gir Forest National Park is the sole surviving habitat of the critically important Asiatic lion (Panthera leo persica), with a population of 523 lions recorded in 2015. This protected area spans 1,412 km² of dry deciduous forest in Saurashtra, Gujarat, offering one of India's most authentic wildlife safari experiences.

Weather
Best visited November to early February when cool weather makes wildlife viewing comfortable. Park closed June 15 to October due to monsoon. April-June can be extremely hot. December nights may require winter clothing.
