Overview
Getaria is a tiny fishing port of about 2,800 people that punches well above its weight for culinary pilgrims and maritime history buffs. The town is famous across Spain for its grilled fish and seafood, particularly its local white wine Getariako Txakolina.

Culture
Getaria is the birthplace of Juan Sebastian Elcano, the navigator who completed Magellan's circumnavigation. His statue stands in the town. Txakoli wine is the local specialty.
Food
The harbor is lined with excellent fish restaurants. Lunch (13:00-15:30) and dinner (20:00-22:30) are the main service times. Advance booking is essential on weekends.
Transport
Getaria sits on the N-634 coastal road between Zarautz and Zumaia. Bus service to San Sebastian runs roughly hourly. No train station; nearest is in Zarautz.
