Altitude
Garzê sits at 3,400m elevation. Acclimatization is essential to prevent altitude sickness—spend a day or two at lower elevations before ascending if possible.

Stray dogs are unpredictable; carry a walking stick and wear sturdy boots. Intense sunshine requires sunglasses and sunblock year-round at this elevation.
Transport
Buses from Kangding depart at 06:00 daily, costing ¥120 and taking 12–14 hours. Book seats toward the front of the bus to avoid the worst bumps on the winding mountain roads.
Weather
Best visited May–September. Summers are mild with wildflowers; winters are harsh with few visitors. Temperatures fluctuate dramatically throughout the day—layer clothing is essential.
