Overview
Fuengirola is a purpose-built beach resort on the Costa del Sol that draws sun-seekers with 8km of sandy beaches and a lively malecon (seafront promenade). It is more affordable than Marbella or Estepona, offering Spanish restaurants, fish and chip shops, and Irish pubs in equal measure.

Language
Spanish is the official language. English is widely spoken in tourist areas, hotels, restaurants, and shops. Some Scandinavian and German also heard due to tourism demographics.
Money
Credit cards accepted widely with contactless tap. ATMs charge €7 foreign transaction fee on average. Tipping not required but can be added to card payments if requested before the amount is entered.
Safety
Mainstream tourist resort with strong police presence. Standard urban precautions: watch for pickpockets in crowded areas and at night. Beach lifeguards during summer.
Transport
Walkable center and beach front. Light train (Cercanías) connects to Málaga and coast. Red Avanza buses for long routes, blue local buses with app. 10-stop bus pass costs €10 from the driver.
Weather
Mediterranean climate: hot summers (30-35°C), mild winters (15-20°C). Peak season June-August. Best value in shoulder seasons April-May and September-October.
