Get around
The best way to get around Freiburg is by public transit (trams and buses) and walking. A single ride within the city (Zone A) costs €2.50, while a pack of 8 tickets is €18. The 24-hour Regio 24 ticket costs €7 for one person and allows unlimited travel in Zone A. Biking is popular, with the Frelo bike-sharing scheme offering 3-day passes for €3. The inner city can be crossed on foot in 10–15 minutes. Note that riding without a valid ticket incurs a €60 fine.

Things to do
Key attractions include the Freiburg Minster (climb the tower for €5), the charming Bächle canals, and the two old city gates Martinstor and Schwabentor. Day trips
Freiburg is a great base for day trips. The Black Forest is accessible via the Höllentalbahn train to Titisee and Schluchsee. Schauinsland is reachable by cable car. Further afield, Heidelberg is 1.5 hours by train, Colmar in France is 1 hour by car or bus, and Europa-Park is 35 km north. The Feldberg and other mountains offer hiking.

From Freiburg, head into the Black Forest for hiking at Feldberg or Schauinsland. Visit Heidelberg for its castle and old town, or cross into France to see Colmar's timber-framed houses. Europa-Park is a major theme park nearby. The Titisee and Schluchsee lakes are popular for water activities.
