The TU Bergakademie (1765) is the world's second-oldest technical university. The town has a youthful atmosphere from 5,000 students among 42,000 residents.
History
Founded in the 1160s on silver ore wealth, Freiberg became the richest town in the Margraviate of Meissen. The town centre survived WWII undamaged, preserving its medieval layout.
Transport
Freiberg has no direct intercity rail connections. Use regional express trains from Dresden or Chemnitz (both ~30 min). Regiobus operates 9 urban lines.
