Fitzroy Island is one of the most accessible islands of the Great Barrier Reef, just 45 minutes by ferry from Cairns. The island combines rainforest trails with coral beaches and clear waters perfect for snorkeling, making it ideal for day-trippers wanting reef experience without a liveaboard.

Activities

Snorkeling included with many ticket packages. Glass bottom boat tours, paddleboarding, and kayak rentals available. No scuba diving on island as of October 2023.

Money

Resort prices range $130-$200/night depending on season. Day trips cost $82 return. Credit card accepted at the resort; bring cash for island purchases.

Packing

Bring reef-safe sunscreen, water shoes for rocky entries, and swimwear. Coral beaches are not sandy — uncomfortable for bare feet.

Transport

Only accessible by ferry from Cairns. Three daily departures at 8AM, 11AM, 1:30PM. Return journey takes 45 minutes. Book through the resort.

Weather

Best visited June-October (dry season). February-March offers lower prices and fewer crowds. Wet season (Nov-May) brings humidity and marine stingers.
