Overview
Fethard-on-Sea is the largest of the villages on Hook Peninsula, with a 2022 population of just 363. It's a base for exploring medieval ruins, Norman invasion sites, and Ireland's oldest lighthouse.

Hook Peninsula has strong Norman heritage dating to the 1169 invasion at Baginbun. The area is traditionally Catholic with historic churches and abbeys.

Safety
Many ruins are unsafe to enter (Dunbrody Abbey house, Slade tower house). Follow signs and don't climb unstable structures.
Transport
Public buses are infrequent; Bus Éireann 370 runs 3 times M-Sa from Waterford. Local Link Bus 399 runs 4 times daily from New Ross to Fethard. A car is essential for sightseeing.
