Overview
Fayum is a forgotten gem off Egypt's beaten track, offering ancient archaeological sites, traditional villages, and Lake Qaroun without the crowds of major tourist destinations. The city was known in ancient times as Shedet and later Crocodilopolis, centered around the cult of the crocodile god Sobek.
