Overview

Falls Creek is Victoria's premier ski-in/ski-out resort, offering 450 ha of skiable terrain served by 14 state-of-the-art lifts with a 280 m vertical drop. The village sits between 1600-1520m elevation, nestled in snowgums with Australia's highest significant body of water—the Rocky Valley Reservoir—visible from the lifts.

Money

Australian dollar (AUD) is the currency. ATMs are limited in the village; bring cash or use card where accepted. Credit cards widely accepted at accommodation and major restaurants. Budget $200-400/day for lift tickets, food, and activities during peak season.

Safety

Ski Patrol (8AM-5PM snow season) handles injuries; call 000 outside patrol hours. Falls Creek Medical Centre operates during ski season. Outside snow season, nearest medical services are in Mount Beauty. Watch for unmarked obstacles; stay on marked runs.

Transport

No direct airport; fly into Melbourne or Albury. Falls Creek Coaches and FallsBus operate from Mount Beauty and Melbourne. Driving requires snow chains June-September; park at Mount Beauty for $10/night and take the shuttle up. Once in the village, everything is ski-in/ski-out—no car needed.

Weather

Ski season June-September with peak conditions July-August. Elevations 1520-1600m mean cold temperatures; wind chill significant on exposed runs. Spring skiing in September offers longer days and softer snow. Summer (Dec-Feb) brings hiking weather but limited services in the village.
