Before you go
Accommodation
Mountain monasteries offer rooms from ¥120 but lack heating. Base-area hostels like Mt. Emei Hostel 3077 (dorms ¥30) and Teddy Bear Hotel (dorms ¥40-70) are better budget options.
Safety
Aggressive monkeys demand food and may bite if provoked—keep food hidden and walk briskly away. Slippery paths October-April require bamboo poles (¥2-4) and crampons. Altitude at 3,000 m can cause altitude sickness.
Transport
High-speed trains connect Emeishan with Chengdu (1 hour). Buses from Chengdu Xinnanmen Station run every 20 minutes (¥48). Local bus 12 goes to Baoguo Station from the train station.
Weather
Cloud cover exceeds 330 days per year. Snow on upper reaches December through mid-spring. Quick visibility drops after sunset. Warm clothing essential year-round at summit.
