Overview
Dürnstein is a small wine-producing town in the Wachau, one of Austria's most celebrated wine regions, attracting nearly 1.7 million visitors annually. The town is dominated by the distinctive blue-and-white Dürnstein Monastery and overlooked by the ruins of the castle where King Richard the Lionhearted was imprisoned from December 1192 to March 1193 after being captured on his return from the Third Crusade.
