Overview

Dorrigo National Park preserves one of the last remaining rainforests from Gondwana, making it a living museum of ancient plant life dating back 50 million years. The park is the most visited of all UNESCO World Heritage listed Gondwana Rainforests of Australia, offering dramatic waterfalls, a swaying skywalk bridge, and walk-through tunnel experiences at Crystal Shower Falls.

Before you go

Accommodation

No camping or lodging inside the park. Nearest accommodation is in Dorrigo town, 1km away. Heritage Hotel Motel offers rooms from $125 with bistro dining.

Money

A $2 donation fee is requested at the Dorrigo Rainforest Centre for visitors over age 10. Souvenirs including books, postcards, stamps, and compasses are available at the centre.

Packing

Rain jacket essential even on clear mornings. Sturdy, waterproof hiking boots recommended for slippery tracks. Binoculars useful for birdwatching on the Walk with the Birds boardwalk.

Safety

Telstra provides the best mobile coverage (3G in most areas), but other providers have poor or no service. Carry a satellite phone for emergencies. Tracks are slippery after afternoon rain.

Transport

Two official carparks exist: Main Carpark at Dorrigo Rainforest Centre and carpark at southern end of Lyrebird Lane. Parking is free. The park is accessed via Dome Road off Waterfall Way.

Weather

Climate similar to Orlando or Singapore. Foggy mornings clear by noon, with daily rain typically around 3PM. Bring a light jacket regardless of season.
