Overview
Dori is a dusty Sahelian trading town of about 18,000 people in North Burkina Faso, known for its herders and popular livestock markets. The town sits between two large barrages (stream barriers) that make navigation difficult during the rainy season.
Budget Travel
Before you go
Culture
Fulfulde is the dominant language of the Fulani people, with Mooré and French also widely spoken. Children often speak enough French to approach visitors.
Money
Dori is a cash economy—bring CFA francs from Ouagadougou as there are no ATMs in town. Bathilly's Boutique accepts some forms of payment for their imported goods.
Transport
The Ouaga–Dori bus costs 5000 CFA and takes several hours. Bus departures are at fixed times (07:00, 16:00 for most companies) but often run late.
Weather
Visit during dry season (November–May) to avoid flooded roads and sand navigation issues. The rainy season makes many roads impassable.
