Donsol is a small rural municipality in Sorsogon province known for its whale shark (butanding) interactions, making it one of the few places in the world where you can swim with these gentle giants. Accommodation
Most resorts only open during whale shark season (December to May). Book ahead during peak season (February to May).
Connectivity
No landlines exist. Internet is limited to town center. Mobile data is unreliable. WiFi available at select restaurants.
Money
Bring sufficient cash as ATMs are limited and currency exchange options are scarce. Credit cards are rarely accepted except at Giddy's Place.
Transport
Tricycles are the main local transport. A ride from town center to Dancalan costs 50 PHP for two people.
Weather
Best time for whale shark sightings is February to early May. Most resorts close outside whale shark season.
