Daman has no alcohol restrictions or heavy taxation unlike Gujarat. Beer, wine, and spirits are widely available and affordable. Purchase from licensed shops rather than beach vendors.
Culture
Despite Portuguese colonial heritage, Gujarati is the main language. Older generations may speak Portuguese. Dress modestly when visiting churches and forts.

Currency is Indian Rupee (₹). ATMs are available in Daman city. Credit cards accepted at upscale hotels and restaurants but cash is preferred for local markets and street vendors.
Transport
Vapi railway station (90 km from Surat, 170 km from Mumbai) is the nearest major railhead. Daman Airport has limited flights. Buses connect to Surat and Mumbai. Within Daman, hire taxis or auto-rickshaws.
Weather
Best visited October-March. Summers are hot (40°C+). Monsoon (July-September) brings heavy rainfall. Beach season peaks in winter.
