Cortona is a hilltop town in Tuscany's Province of Arezzo, sitting at 600 metres elevation with magnificent panoramas in every direction. One of the twelve cities of the Etruscan League, it combines ancient history with Renaissance art, making it an appealing counterpoint to busier Tuscan destinations.

Safety
Pickpockets target tourists in crowded areas. Town is very hilly—consider renting a car for mobility issues.
Transport
Train stations: Terontola-Cortona (main line) and Camucia-Cortona. Most buses stop at Piazza Garibaldi. Parking outside town walls, some free.
Weather
At 600m elevation, Cortona enjoys cooler temperatures than the valley floor. Summers are warm with the Tuscan Sun Festival; winters are quieter.
