Overview
Constantine is Algeria's third-largest city and the self-proclaimed "City of Bridges"—a dramatic plateau city carved apart by deep ravines and spanned by eight bridges. The most famous, Sidi M'Cid Bridge (Gantaret El Hibal), held the record as the world's highest suspension bridge at 175 m until 1929.

Before you go
Culture
Conservative Islamic dress is expected, especially in mosques and traditional areas. Tea (Atay) culture is central to social interactions.
Money
Algerian Dinar (DZD) is the local currency. ATMs are available in the city center but may have withdrawal limits. Credit cards are rarely accepted outside hotels and upscale restaurants.
Safety
Common sense precautions suffice: avoid flashy jewelry, secure valuables, don't walk alone at night. Pick-pocketing and motorbike theft are the main concerns.
Transport
Mohamed Boudiaf Airport handles flights; the train station connects to Algiers; two bus stations serve intercity routes with shared taxis available.
