Overview
Cihuatán was once a large Mayan city-state that reached its peak in the early Post-Classic period around 900-1200 AD. The site features three main complexes of excavated buildings including pyramids, ball courts, residential structures, and a marketplace.

Packing
Bring at least 2 liters of water per person, sunscreen, a hat, and insect repellent. Comfortable walking shoes recommended.
Transport
Day trips from San Salvador via tour companies are the easiest access. Independent visits require private transportation.
Weather
Cihuatán is very hot year-round. Wear a hat, apply sunscreen regularly, and use insect repellent when visiting.
