Overview
Chaves is one of the most historical cities in Trás-os-Montes, with Roman origins dating back two millennia — the Trajan bridge and Aquæ Flaviæ heritage remain visible today. The town sits 10 km north of the Spanish border, making it a logical stop for those exploring the northern interior or crossing between Portugal and Galicia.
