Overview

Caserta exists almost entirely because of the Palazzo Reale (Royal Palace), a UNESCO-listed Bourbon palace that rivals Versailles in scale. During Italian summer holidays (August especially) it draws huge crowds, but the rest of the year the city is pleasantly sleepy with local markets and coffee bars.
