Overview
Carraroe (An Cheathrú Rua, "The Red Quarter") is the largest settlement on the Carraroe Peninsula in Connemara, with just 725 residents but 78% Irish speakers, one of the highest percentages in Ireland. The village is the gateway to a chain of islands linked by causeway—Lettermore, Lettermullan, and Furnish—and a base for visiting the Aran Islands from nearby Rossaveel.
