History
Carpi was founded in 752 AD and ruled by the Pio dynasty (1319-1525) then the Este family. The 2012 earthquake damaged several historic buildings, but repairs continue and most attractions remain open.

Transport
Regional trains run every 30 minutes between Modena and Carpi (15 min journey). SETA Bus 500 also connects the cities every 30 minutes (50 min). The historic centre is traffic-free and best explored on foot.
