Overview
Carnac is home to the world's largest collection of megalithic standing stones, with over 3,000 prehistoric monuments aligned across the Breton landscape. In 2025, these stones were inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, recognizing their significance as one of the most remarkable Neolithic landscapes in Europe.

France uses the Euro (€). ATMs available in town center; La Poste at 18 avenue de la Poste D119 is open M–F 09:00–12:00 and 14:00–17:00, Tu also 14:30–17:00, Sa 09:00–12:00, closed Sundays.
Safety
Beware of dangerous undercurrents in the Golfe du Morbihan. Swim only at supervised beaches and respect warning flags.
Transport
The train station (Gare de Plouharnel-Carnac) is 4 km from town and only operates in summer. A car is the most practical way to visit all the stone alignments.
Weather
Best visited April through September for pleasant walking weather. Summer is busiest but offers longest daylight hours for site visits.
