Overview
Camballin exists for one reason: Fitzroy River fishing. Barramundi exceeding a metre in length populate these waters, and freshwater crayfish (cherabin) add variety.

Accommodation
The caravan park was destroyed in 2023 floods. Wild camping available; bring your own tent or off-road caravan.
Connectivity
No mobile signal as of August 2024, even on the highway east of Derby. Satellite communication required.
Food
No shops or restaurants exist. Bring all food and at least 10 litres of drinking water from Derby.
Safety
Crocodiles present throughout Fitzroy River—never enter the water. Feral pigs are dangerous if wounded.
Transport
Self-drive only; no public transport. 2WD suffices to reach Camballin in dry season; 4WD required beyond town.
Weather
Flooding regularly cuts access from November to April. Visit during dry season (May–October) only.
