Caesarea combines 2,000-year-old Roman ruins with some of Israel's most beautiful Mediterranean beaches. Herod the Great built this grand harbor city in honor of Augustus Caesar, and the Crusaders later added impressive walls that still stand today.

Transport
Buses connect Caesarea to Tel Aviv and Hadera. Hitchhiking is described as easy. A vehicle is useful for visiting spread-out sites.

Little shade in the archaeological park—bring sun protection. Summer can be extremely hot for walking between sites.
