Overview

Budderoo National Park offers something rare on Australia's east coast: genuine temperate rainforest. While the country is better known for deserts and eucalypt scrub, this park preserves the Illawarra's remnant rainforests, centred on the Minnamurra catchment.

Before you go

Camping

Carrington Falls campground has only 6 sites—book far in advance, especially for school holidays.

Fees

Minnamurra Rainforest entry: $12/vehicle or $4.40 adult/$2.20 child by public transport. Rest of park is free.

Safety

Supervise children near waterfalls. Snakes are not a concern in the rainforest. General wildlife poses minimal threat if undisturbed.

Transport

Self-drive from Kiama (16 km) is most practical. Weekday-only bus route 125 runs once daily; no weekend service.

Weather

Cool climate year-round (8–26°C). Best visited July–November; September is driest. Avoid Dec–Jan (bushfire season) and Feb–Apr (heavy rain).
