Overview
Brielle is one of the best-preserved fortified towns in the Netherlands, with its star-shaped defensive walls and canals changing little since their construction in 1713. The town played a crucial role in the Eighty Years' War—the Capture of Brielle by the Watergeuzen (Sea Beggars) on April 1, 1572, sparked the massive Dutch uprising against Spain.
