Overview

Briatexte is a quiet bastide founded in 1287 by Simon de Briseteste on the site of the razed Cathar village of Les Touelles. With just 2,000 inhabitants, it offers a glimpse of medieval Occitan history, a riverside mill on the Dadou, and a vineyard producing Côtes-du-Tarn wine.
