Biskra is the capital of Biskra Province in northeastern Algeria, with a population of 307,987 recorded in 2007. Located about 248 miles (400 km) from Algiers, 71 miles (115 km) southwest of Batna, and 137 miles (220 km) north of Touggourt, it serves as a gateway to the Sahara.
