WiFi is available at some hotels (Ratna Hotel charges ₹200/hour or ₹500 for 24 hours). Mobile coverage is good for Nepalese carriers; Indian SIMs may work near the border.

Language

Nepali is the primary language. Hindi is widely understood near the Indian border. English is limited outside of hotels and tourist-facing businesses.

Money

Indian Rupees (₹) are widely accepted near the border areas. Nepalese Rupees (NPR) are used for most transactions. ATMs are available from major Nepali banks including on Main Street north of Traffic Chowk.

Safety

Standard urban precautions apply in Biratnagar. The city is generally safe for travelers but exercise normal vigilance with belongings in crowded areas and markets.

Transport

Rickshaws (about ₹2/minute) are the cheapest way to get around central Biratnagar. Taxis are available at airport and major hotels but lack meters. No official taxi service exists.
