Overview
Bijagua de Upala is the fourth district of Upala canton, sitting in a valley between the Miravalles and Tenorio volcanoes. The town serves primarily as the gateway to Parque Nacional Volcan Tenorio, home to the famous Rio Celeste waterfall with its striking turquoise-blue water.

Costa Rican colón (CRC) is the local currency. US dollars are widely accepted at tourist sites. ATMs may be limited in Bijagua itself.
Transport
Route 6 is the main access road. Public buses run but schedules are limited. A rental car provides the most flexibility for reaching Tenorio volcano and hot springs.
Weather
Bijagua is in a tropical climate zone. The dry season (Dec-Apr) is best for hiking; wet season brings lush scenery but afternoon rains.
