Bergen is an artist village and upper-income suburb in North Holland, popular among travellers for its seaside beaches and dunes. The village has been known as an artists colony since 1900, and in the 1920s-1930s the Bergen School of painters developed here.

Hotels cluster in Egmond aan Zee and Bergen aan Zee seaside villages. Badhotel prefix means bath (seaside location), not poor quality.

Nature
Schoorlse Duinen nature reserve (1900 hectares) is free to access. The PWN-controlled Noordhollands Duinreservaat near Bergen requires a €1.20 day ticket.
Transport
Bus 6 connects Bergen to Alkmaar every 15 minutes on weekdays. The journey takes 10 minutes. Cycling is the most efficient way to explore the area.
