Overview
Benapole is the most frequently used land border crossing between Bangladesh and India, handling the bulk of overland travel between the two countries. Most travelers pass through Benapole as a necessary transit point rather than a destination in itself, heading to Dhaka from the Indian side or departing Bangladesh toward Kolkata on the other.

Before you go
Etiquette
Decline offers from strangers to handle your passport or fill immigration forms—present documents yourself to avoid bribery attempts. Say 'no' firmly if baksheesh is requested.
Money
Use money changers on the Indian side where they are more plentiful. Departure tax from Bangladesh is 300 Taka if leaving by road—direct buses typically collect this fee. Hotel Haque offers rooms from Tk100, Parjatan Hotel from Tk600.
Safety
Benapole is a functional border town with standard precautions. Keep belongings secure, handle your own passport to avoid scams, and cross during daylight hours when possible.
Transport
Direct A/C buses run Benapole-Dhaka (8-9 hours). Rickshaws on Bangladesh side cost Tk 5 for 2km. Taxis to Kolkata from Indian side start at ₹900. Walk across the border—the town is too small for further transport needs.
