Overview

Before you go
Connectivity
Mobile coverage is limited and unreliable in the jungle and on islands. WiFi is available at some resorts but expect to be disconnected in the forest.
Money
Cash only for most island resorts and boat services. ATMs available in Gerik before heading to the reserve. Malaysian Ringgit (MYR) is the currency.
Safety
Always wear life jackets on water. Use experienced guides for jungle treks. Trails are uneven—limited mobility visitors should avoid treks.
Transport
Pulau Banding jetty is the main access point. Public buses run from Gerik to Pulau Banding. Organized tours from Kuala Lumpur or Penang are convenient but more expensive.
Weather
Best visited February-April for dry conditions. August-October is prime for Hornbill spotting. Rainy season mid-November to January makes trails slippery.
