Overview

Bahawalpur was once the capital of the princely state of Bahawalpur, and its former rulers left behind an impressive legacy of ornate palaces and monuments. The city serves as the gateway to the Cholistan Desert and Derawar Fort, one of Pakistan's most striking historical structures.

Culture

Bahawalpur is conservative and predominantly Muslim. Modest dress is essential, especially for women. Remove shoes before entering mosques and private homes when requested. Photography of government buildings and military installations is prohibited.
