Badajoz is a border city in Extremadura facing Portugal, often used as a stopover between Madrid and Lisbon. The old city centre features the Moorish Alcazaba citadel with its 30m Torre de Espantaperros, a fortress-like cathedral, and Plaza Alta.

Extremely hot summers (over 35°C) and near-zero winter temperatures. Spring and autumn are most comfortable for sightseeing.
