Overview
Bad Gastein is a small alpine city in the Salzburg region of Austria, situated within Hohe Tauern National Park at roughly 1,000 metres above sea level. The town is famous for its Belle Époque architecture—historic multi-story hotels built on steep slopes—and its thermal waters that attracted European royalty in the 19th century.

Bad Gastein town centre sits at approximately 1,000 metres (3,300 ft) above sea level. Some ski areas reach significantly higher altitudes.
Transport
The Stubnerkogelbahn cable car runs from behind Bad Gastein railway station up to the Stubnerkogel ski area. Ski buses connect all valley districts to ski slopes in winter.

Alpine weather can change rapidly. Pack layers year-round; winter temperatures can drop well below freezing, while summer days can be warm.
