Overview
Arecibo is one of Puerto Rico's oldest colonial settlements, founded in 1616, offering a quieter alternative to San Juan with authentic local character. The city was globally famous for housing the world's largest radio telescope for over 50 years until its dramatic collapse in December 2020; the observatory reopened to visitors in March 2022.
