Overview
Ardmore (Aird Mhór, "the great height" in Irish) is a small beach resort in County Waterford with a permanent population of just under 500. Its main draws are the 12th-century round tower and ruined cathedral on the hill above the village, standing on the site of a 5th-century monastery founded by St Declan, predating St Patrick's arrival in Ireland.

Before you go
Connectivity
Ardmore and its approach roads have 4G from all Irish carriers. As of July 2025, 5G has not reached this area.
Money
Ireland uses the euro (€). ATMs are likely available at the Centra shop on Main St, which is open daily 8AM-8PM.
Packing
Bring rain gear and layers; Ireland's south coast experiences changeable weather year-round. Sturdy walking shoes are essential for the clifftop path.
Safety
Beaches suffer from pollution and agricultural run-off; check current water quality advisories before swimming. The clifftop path offers dramatic views but requires care near edges.
Transport
Local Link Bus 361 connects Ardmore with Youghal (25 min), Helvick, the Ring peninsula, and Dungarvan every couple of hours. No local taxi in Ardmore; nearest in Youghal.
