Overview
Alnmouth is a small coastal village on the outflow of the River Aln in Northumberland, pronounced 'Allen-mouth'. With a population of just 444 (2021), it's a quiet place that comes alive in summer when day-trippers arrive from Newcastle.

GBP is used. Card payments accepted at most establishments, but carry some cash for smaller shops and tips.
Safety
The beach south of the river requires attention to tides when returning. Wading across the River Aln is only safe for about two hours either side of low tide.
Transport
Alnmouth railway station is 1½ miles west of the village in Hipsburn. Bus X18 runs hourly from Newcastle via Morpeth and Amble, connecting the station, village, and Alnwick.
Weather
Coastal Northumberland can be windy; pack layers and waterproofs even in summer. The best weather is typically May-September.
