Overview
Al Wakrah is a historic coastal city just south of Doha that retains a working fishing harbor with traditional dhows—a contrast to the capital's gleaming towers. The town has its own heritage, including a restored merchant house and a small museum housed in an old fort, plus a fenced family beach with shallow water.

Before you go
Culture
Al Wakrah is a conservative Muslim city; dress modestly (cover shoulders and knees) in public areas outside the beach. Non-Muslims should not enter mosques. Alcohol is not available publicly.
Health
Al Wakra Hospital on Al Wukair Street and Al Wakrah Primary Health Center on Al Wakair St provide medical services. HMC operates an emergency department locally. Pharmacies are available in the mall.
Money
Qatar uses the Qatar Riyal (QAR). ATMs are available at banks and shopping malls like Ezdan Mall. Credit cards are accepted at hotels and malls but carry small surcharges; cash is preferred at local markets and fish vendors.
Transport
Route 109 and 119 buses connect Al Wakrah to Doha's Al Ghanim Bus Station every 5–20 minutes, taking 30 minutes. The Doha Metro Red Line now reaches the city's north edge. By car, it's about 20 km southeast from Doha, roughly 25 minutes.
Weather
Summers (Jun–Sep) are extremely hot (40°C+); winter (Nov–Mar) is mild (15–25°C) and ideal for sightseeing. Ramadan may affect opening hours and restaurant availability.
