Overview

Ajman is the smallest of the seven UAE emirates, centrally located on the Gulf coast with 16 km of beach. It offers a more relaxed, less touristy alternative to Dubai while being only 10 km away.

Ajman is ruled by the Al Nuaimi tribe. Traditional Iranian souq offers local goods. Dress modestly when away from beach areas.

Money

UAE dirham (AED) is the local currency. Credit cards accepted at malls and hotels, cash preferred for local markets and smaller establishments. ATMs available throughout the city.

Safety

GMC Hospital open 24 hours for emergencies. Ibin Sina Medical Centre offers affordable specialist consultations. Tap water is safe though slightly salted from desalination.

Transport

Taxis are the primary local transport. Al Musalla Bus Station connects to other emirates. Emirates Road links Ajman to Dubai, Sharjah, and northern emirates.

Weather

Extremely hot summers (40°C+), milder winters (15-25°C). Winter months (Nov-Mar) best for outdoor activities.
