Ahuachapán is generally safe for travelers in the downtown area. Use normal urban precautions and avoid walking alone late at night in less-traveled areas.
Transport
Chicken buses to/from San Salvador (US$2, 2h15m) and Santa Ana (US$1, 1h) run frequently. There is no central terminal; buses stop on CA-8 near Hospicio de Varones.
Water
The municipal water supply is generally safe but travelers may prefer bottled or filtered water. Hot spring pools at Termales Santa Teresa use geothermally heated mineral water.
